When a released instrument appears, note the parties, document type, recording date, and book/page or instrument number. Take that identifier to the Register when an image is missing or a certified copy is needed.

Gaston replaced the older Book-Map-Parcel format in 2002 with a six-digit Parcel ID and ten-digit NC PIN, so older documents may require both identifier systems.

Postal place names and city limits are not the same. A Gastonia mailing address does not prove that a parcel lies within Gastonia's corporate limits. That distinction decides whether a city or county office keeps a permit, code, or administrative record. Gaston County also includes Belmont, Bessemer City, Cherryville, Cramerton, Dallas, High Shoals, Lowell, McAdenville, Mount Holly, Ranlo, Stanley, and part of Kings Mountain, with unincorporated areas between them.

The Judicial Branch states that Portal is not the official court record, so use a result to capture the case number and filing county, then contact the Gaston clerk for the file or certified copy.

Juvenile, adoption, sealed, expunged, and other confidential matters do not become public through account registration.

Find Gastonia Police Reports

For incidents handled by Gastonia Police, the city case portal offers a different name trail. Its form supports a case number route or a date plus last name. Street number, street, and city fields also allow an address-based search. The department says reports generally appear three to five business days after an event. If one does not appear after that period, Records can be reached at 704-866-6702; paper reports are available at the department for $1 per copy.

The portal does not publish every report class. Missing-person, natural-death, involuntary-commitment, sex-offense, and suicide reports require direct Records contact because of their nature. The online/offline split does not mean the underlying report is absent.

Order Gaston County Vital Records

The Gaston Register of Deeds records and issues county birth, death, and marriage certificates. Divorce judgments come from the Clerk of Superior Court where the case was filed, while N.C. Vital Records issues statewide certificates and divorce summaries. North Carolina does not use a simple rule that opens births after 100 years or deaths after 50. Certified-copy eligibility follows G.S. 130A-93(c), which includes the subject, spouse, sibling, direct ancestor or descendant, certain step-relatives, and people acting in specified legal or representative roles.

State holdings described in the N.C. Vital Records order guidance begin in 1913 for births, 1930 for deaths, 1962 for marriages, 1958 for divorces, and 2001 for fetal deaths. The state search costs $24 for each three-year period or part and includes one copy, even if no record is found. The state requires identity facts, relationship, and accepted ID.

Time-sensitive county birth, death, or marriage requests may be faster through the Register. Family historians should use local indexes, the library, and State Archives holdings rather than assume a recent certificate is an open web record.

Public work directories can confirm a current role and office contact without turning to an unverified residential listing. Gaston County's directory browses departments, boards, commissions, and service branches.
